PhotoFacial or
"Intense Pulse Light" IPL:
What is a PhotoFacial?
PhotoFacial or IPL is a treatment utilizing Intense Pulse Light to deliver heat to the skin. The specific wavelength used allows heating of precise target-areas of skin discoloration or sun damage. The pigment is then broken up and sloughs off over several days. We treat patients with IPL from all over Arizona including Mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe and Queen Creek.
What happens to my Age spots and sun damage??
Sun damage and brown spots will be greatly decreased, but not cured. After about 3 treatments, many patients report a significant improvement in brown spots and an improvement in skin texture. Age spots and sun damage require vigilant UV protection and specific skin care products. This is an excellent procedure for maintaining great-looking skin here in Arizona and can be performed as needed.
What areas of the body can be treated with a PhotoFacial?
Any area with age spots and sun damage may be treated. The most common areas treated with IPL are: Face, Chest, Hands and arms.
Does IPL treat Redness?
Redness or Rosacea is a chronic condition without a known cause. For many patients, the redness can appear much lighter after 3-5 treatments with the IPL. After this, touch-up treatments vary by patient. Specific skin care products combined with regular photofacials can help control the redness.
What is a PhotoFacial treatment like?
A single IPL treatment consists of multiple pulses of very bright light over the entire face. Each pulse feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin and does not require any numbing. A PhotoFacial treatment takes about 20-30 minutes.
How long does it take to heal from a PhotoFacial treatment?
Brown spots will slough off over about 7-14 days. Redness may last from 1-3 days. Some patients may have some slight peeling.
Who is a good candidate for PhotoFacial?
IPL treatment is best for Caucasion or light-skinned individuals. With very careful selection, we sometimes treat darker skin colors after a consult with the doctor.
Can PhotoFacials help Acne or Pre-Cancerous Skin Lesions?
We also combine PhotoFacial with ALA in a procedure called PhotoDynamic PhotoFacial or Super PhotoFacial. This is the ideal treatment for moderate to severely sun-damaged skin or acne. If you have pre-cancerous skin lesions (AK's) or if you have had them treated in the past this is an excellent way to improve your skin.
What PhotoFacial Laser do you use?
We use the Sciton BBL system that has an integrated sapphire cooling tip for even greater patient comfort and safety. We believe it is the best Photofacial IPL system available today. If you want outstanding results come see us today.
How many PhotoFacials will I need?
Specific settings are selected for each treatment for optimal results. A series of 2-5 treatments are performed at three to four week intervals. The benefits of PhotoFacial treatments are consistent, visible improvement in the skin with no minimal downtime, little discomfort and minimal risk. With PhotoFacial treatments the embarrassing redness and flushing of rosacea can be greatly reduced and sun damaged, aging skin can be dramatically improved, and age spots can be eliminated.
