Ink

Black ink is the easiest to remove and a black tattoo will usually require from 5-10 laser tattoo removal treatments. Red ink removal can cause an allergic reaction with itchiness and swelling, but usually removes nicely.

Laser tattoo removal of yellow ink can leave the skin looking white or "hypopigmented". Most of the time yellow can be removed, but some yellow inks are resistant.

Green and blue tattoos are the most difficult to remove, and many times will not remove completely with laser tattoo removal.

Pain

Laser Tattoo removal HURTS. We will provide ice for you to cool the skin prior to your treatment. This pain can be compared to hot bacon grease contacting your skin. Some patients opt to purchase numbing cream to decrease the pain. Because each treatment only takes a few minutes, most patients tolerate laser tattoo removal very well. Your tattoo will swell a bit, and may develop small blisters for a few days. Icing for the first few hours after your laser tattoo removal will help with pain.

How Many Treatments??? As previously stated, black tattoos usually require about 5-10 laser tattoo removal treatments several weeks apart. The number of treatments will vary depending on:

• Ink Type
• Depth of Application
• Color
• Patient Physiology
• Skin Type

It is not possible to look at a tattoo and tell you how many treatments it may take. The more TIME you put in between laser tattoo treatments, the fewer treatments you will need. The LIGHTER your skin, the more effective the laser treatments will be. Other options for tattoo removal may include having it surgically cut out by a plastic surgeon or ink cover-up by a professional tattoo artist.

Aftercare

After your laser tattoo removal treatment you must ice for 2-4 hours. We will provide you with a special ointment for healing. Red inks may develop itching and swelling that may require a steroid cream or injection. No swimming is allowed for 2 weeks. Keep your tattoo OUT of the sun for at least 4 weeks. The more UV exposure, the higher the risk of scarring your skin.
